I ate Chinese food the other day. And with any typical Chinese meal in America comes the fortune cookie. I always look forward to these. Mostly because they're good, but also because I want to see what this little weirdly-shaped cookie has to say to, or rather FOR, me.
Many times my fortunes are disappointing and/or lame. But I have one I've kept for years that says "You will travel to many exotic places." It's pretty obvious why I kept that one. And the one I got the other day is another keeper. It says: "You are heading for a land of sunshine and relaxation."
Immediately after reading it, my mind started going off on a pessimistic rant ... "I'm stuck here in freaking Utah, there's sunshine, but I ain't relaxin'...." etc. etc. But then something in my mind realized something, and my pessimistic thoughts stopped.
I'm HEADING for a land of sunshine and relaxation. A smile reached my face as I realized how silly I was being. It's talking about the future. Duh. I know that after I push through these next 10 months, it'll be smooth sailing. I definitely plan on being in many lands of sunshine and relaxation after I graduate. I mean, I think anywhere I'll be outside of the US will be relaxation. And I can't wait. I can't wait to change lives while changing my own in the process, and experiencing things people only dream of (even more so than I already have!). I want to BE about it, not just TALK about it. Getting my degree, which I am so happy I decided to get, even after a few years, will open so many opportunities for me. And unlike many people who graduate with degrees, I really will use mine. =)
I know it's silly believing a little saying coming from a delicious little treat, but I like to pretend it's true. And I think pretending and having those thoughts in your mind helps you achieve what you want because it's always back there chillin' in your sub-conscious.
